The 2009 Altarum Lost River Classic p/b
To Benefit Mathias-Baker Fire and Rescue

Mathias, WV
Saturday July 25th, 2009
Held Under USA Cycling Permit 2009-1762

The Lost River Classic (well, soon to be a classic on the MABRA calendar) is a new race for the MABRA road racing scene and will be significant addition to the 2009 calendar for many. The loop is 10.4 miles and carries around 1000 feet of climbing per lap. There are two main climbs: one on Dispanet near the start of the course (just off of Howard's Lick Road), the other near the church on Jenkins Hollow Road. It is a tough course, but certainly not one where climbers will have an unbeatable advantage. There are a lot of rolling sections and there are also some technical descents. It's not at all out of the realm that the race could be torn apart by a fearless descender.
The good Commissioners of Hardy County offered their enthusiastic support for our bringing a race to their streets, so the game is officially on. Everyone involved with municipal jurisdictions out there has been awesome, completely open and helpful. I would ask that any race participants reciprocate the consideration that the Lost River community has shown to the bike racing community. These people are throwing their doors open for us, let's all be sure and keep that in mind.
